Subject: Mayor’s & councilors’ raises
FROM AN INDIVIDUAL:
Dear [Councilor]:
I am writing to request that at the September 9 city council meeting, you and your colleagues rescind the ordinances regarding the mayor’s and councilors’ raises.
As a taxpayer in the City of Quincy, I find a 79% increase for the mayor and a 50% increase for city councilors to be outrageous. In addition, there were no prior public hearings or ward meetings to discuss these high increases with the residents. As there was no public input in that process, I would like to request a meeting with you prior to the September 9 council meeting. I am very concerned with the lack of transparency in the decision-making process for items that affect Quincy’s taxpayers.
I look forward to your response and a time for when we can meet.
Sincerely,

Subject: Mayor’s and councilor’s raises
Dear [Councilor]:
I am writing to request that at the next council meeting on September 9th, you support a resolution to rescind the ordinances approving the mayor’s and councilors’ salary increases.
As a taxpayer in the City of Quincy, I find a 79% salary increase for the mayor and a 50% salary increase for the City Councilors to be outrageous. The increases are out of line with comparable positions, were based on a flawed consultant’s report, and were voted out of the ordinance committee prematurely, with insufficient public deliberation. What I find most egregious is that you held no prior public hearings or ward meetings to discuss this matter with residents.
As there was no public input in that process, I would like to request a meeting with you before the September 9th council meeting.
Furthermore, I am very concerned with the lack of transparency in the decision-making process for issues that affect Quincy taxpayers.
Kindly acknowledge receipt of this letter and please include a mutually convenient time and date for when we can meet.
Sincerely,
